Main Focus :

Broad objective of the study was to critically examine the performance for a decade (1969-70 to 78-79) of the various Institutional Agencies involved partly or wholly in the field of Rural Finance both in India and Bangladesh – indepth analysis was made mainly with regard to coverage of these agencies, savings mobilization, extension of credit in the rural areas for various production/income generating activities etc. A composit Index covering various indicators of five points i.e. coverage, resources, loan operation, cost control and profit earnings was developed on a scientific basis to make an effective comparative analysis of the involved Rural Finance/Banking agencies. An attempt was also made to identify the major problems faced by both involved agencies and their clientele with the help of two Case Studies conducted in Bangladesh.
